The Gresham team has received a letter of thanks after making a donation to a family from Ukraine who are staying in the local area. The donation of £1000 was given to the mother and son aged 15, who came to the UK as refugees from Mariupol. Natalia worked in the steel factory which was besieged by Russian troops however the family managed to flee with a small backpack of worldly goods each. The donation came about after a neighbour of one of the firm’s directors took the refugees into their home in Hale.
The funds are now being used to pay for English lessons to help the mother find work and get established in the UK. Natalia is already seeking employment. Zhore on the other hand has found other teens locally in the same situation with whom he can converse and we understand he now has the appropriate equipment to continue with his schooling.
In addition to the monetary contribution, our team members made several donations of clothing and essentials for the family on their arrival.
Morven Millar, Director, commented:
“As a firm, we always look to try and help out local causes and people in need in our local community. After the atrocities faced by so many innocent people in Ukraine, we felt compelled to try and do something to help out in a practical and meaningful way. Each person has their own story to tell.
“Hopefully our donation will go some way to helping the family to be able to settle into their new lives in the UK until a time when it is safe for them to return home.”
