A duo from Gresham Wealth Management are taking on the Great Manchester 10K this year in aid of a North West brain injury charity.
Daniel Ardern and Gareth Jones will don their running shoes on 19th May 2019 to take part in Manchester’s most famous running event, fundraising for Headway Blackpool Wyre & Fylde. Self-confessed reluctant runners, Daniel, one of Gresham’s Chartered Financial Planners, and Gareth, a Paraplanner on our technical team, both made the decision to take part in this year’s 10K event at the start of the year as part of their plans to get fit for 2019!
With only two months to go until the big day, training is underway and fundraising has now commenced!
The team has chosen to support Headway after one of Gresham’s Directors became involved in working with the charity. Jonathan Young has been working with the charity in 2016 after he was invited to join Headway as a Director and Trustee.
Daniel commented:
“At Gresham, we provide ongoing investment advice to a number of clients who have received personal injury awards and we are therefore well aware of the difference that charities such as Headway can have in improving the lives of those who are less fortunate then us.
“Finding out more about Headway has opened my eyes to the everyday struggles brain injury sufferers have to contend with. A severe brain injury can come as the result of a traumatic accident or sudden illness – something that any of us could potentially experience out of the blue at any point in our lives. The work that Headway does in helping to fill in the gap by providing social and professional services for members is invaluable to its members.”
The Headway Blackpool Wyre & Fylde branch was formed in 2010 when Patrons Ian and Karen Kendrick’s son suffered a brain injury and was not able to travel the distance to other Headway groups or branches. Since then, the charity has grown in the services it provides and became an independent registered charity in 2014.
Running regular sessions for its members, including bimonthly drop-ins, annual events and days out, as well as access to professional services such as anger management, relaxation and physiotherapy, Headway’s services are a great support to both the members and their families – who often also become affected by the ongoing effects of their loved ones’ injuries. Additional money from fundraising will help to increase the support on offer to brain injury survivors and their families across the Fylde coast.
